Continued From Part 1!...
A relevant song that also got yanked was "Sunday, Bloody
Sunday!!" How could this song be pulled? There is a difference
to being sensitive to people's feelings and needs and dumbing
everything down. Maybe that is why people go to see war films,
because 90% of the time they have happy endings. We have known
for years that is one of the many things that separates film
from reality, the happy ending. In a film, when a character
dies, you can rewind it to the point where they are still
alive, basically turning back those ooooh so heavy hands of
time and brining that character back to life. In reality,
one some one is gone, there is no coming back. You can't put
the world on pause and you certainly can't hop in your Delorean
and rewind the events and change them. Once they are gone,
they aren't coming back for the sequel.
I know that the people who have lost loved ones don't want
to be reminded of the devastation that has happened and that
the Holidays are going to be a lot harder to get through this
year, but i am sure they would not take offense to hearing
a song like "New York, New York." I also wonder
how many of them are in the percentage of those going to see
war films. Those that have offices that are in Times Square
can see the rumble perfectly. I think it is weird how people
don't take offense to things they should. I remember how TRL
went black for a couple of days and came back within less
than a week. I know Carson acknowledged what had happened
and talked openly about that, but doesn't it seem a little
disgraceful when girls are telling why they are voting for
the new N*Sync video and how hot Justin is when a couple blocks
down the road dead bodies are being removed from a smoking
pile of ruble. When teenagers are smiling and requesting boy
band videos while family members all over the world are experiencing
loss and are grieving, THAT I do take offense to!!
No I didn't lose anybody on that day, but i have friends
and family that line in NY and a few came close. But for the
whole day, I was just like everyone else, not knowing if some
of my loved ones were still alive or not. So I do think that
gives plenty of leverage to speak my mind, not anywhere near
as much as those who lost loved ones, not even close. But,
way more than those who didn't even know anyone in that area.
We all need to open our eyes and change our ways for the better.
That was a HUGE wake up call. That one day of agony is everyday
life in some countries. When we thought that could never happen
here, Bin Laden slapped us in the face as heard as he could.
That is why we need our "Sunday, Bloody Sunday!!"
When Bono sings lines like "The Battle has just begun/we
haven't lost, but tell me who has won?" and "wipe
your tears away," he is speaking from experience. Until
recently, there was constant fighting in their homeland. Sunday
wasn't the only bloody day, there was bloodshed 7 days a week.
What do we do with the films, books, sons, etc from the
past that have the WTC? Are we supposed to forget it even
existed? Do we burn the books? My friend Brandon and I watched
"American Psycho" last week and there was a shot
of the WTC. Should we write our government officials and contact
our local representatives about this, or should we just send
them the film and leave at their disposal? Since 9/11, everyone
is now a patriot. I wonder how long this is going to last?
When the smoke clears from the ruble, and the last scraps
are disposed of, with everyone still walking around with that
ear to ear smile?
Everybody and their wicked mother in law has flags everywhere;
places of business, restaurants, schools, in the cars, etc.
I just get mad at the fact that about 10% were up pre 9/11.
How long is this "new" or "temporary"
patriotism going to last. In Hollywood, it seems to have a
different meaning than in the rest of the world. I mean Hollywood
the place AND Hollywood the business. I find it hard for the
patriotism to shine through when a guy has a flag in his rear
window but is also telling me to "Go Fuck Yourself"
simply because I did not run the red light and he is in dire
need of making it to Joe's pub in time to catch 25 cent draft
night. God Bless America!!
If we are all going to be patriots, let's not do this shit
half assed!! Two great quotes out of many since 9/11, go to
Bill Maher and Henry Rollins. Mr.. Maher had a comment about
the falling stock market , "Don't' salute the green,
salute the red, white, and blue." I read an article where
a fan was at a Rollins Band concert and had some sort of patriotic
sign and it caught his attention. I can't remember his exact
quote, but it was something along these lines; "If your
going to be a patriot, don't do it half assed! Be a patriot
everyday, because everyday there is a crisis in America."
My thoughts exactly.
Ever since that dreaded day, the whole world seems to be
in a Twilight Zone. The news has such disgusting stories,
headlines cancel out each other, etc. One day I read the headlines
on the prodigy home page and one said, "U2 crank out
the rock and rake in the money." The whole article was
about how this tour would be there most profitable and how
when the tour was over they would each walk away with over
100 million each. The headline directly below said, "Stocks
take a dive, America officially in recession." Unless
you are a celebrity, a P Diddy like mogul, or can pay 12 billion
to buy Universal, money is tight either because we don't have
it, or do but don't want to spend it. Countless people have
lost their jobs, and then I hear about employers who can actually
afford to keep people on, but are using these events as an
excuse to lay people off so they will have even more money.
These people are treasonous bastards in my opinion, and should
be dealt with accordingly.
The events that 9/11 did prove were many things, mainly
that Terrorism is many things, but in a way, it is a disease.
Just like AIDS, it does not care if you are thin, fat, black,
white, rich, or poor. No matter who you are, you can get caught
in the crossfire. That day, it didn't matter if you were the
highest paid actor, or a homeless man. That was the realization
that we are all just people. Celebrities are human beings
like everybody else, and if both were in the WTC and didn't
make it out, they would both be dead. I remember when everyone
was scared about the world ending when the year 2000 rolled
around, and in some ways, maybe it should have. People thought
that once that ball dropped, the world would self destruct.
If it did, the homeless vagrant and the richest person in
the world would die just the same. It doesn't matter who you
are, how much you are worth, and what your status is because
death doesn't care!!
