The newly remodeled A.D. (formerly the Playroom)
is a gargantuan space festooned with an eclectic mix of
modern I-Dream-Of –Jeanie style furniture and adornments.
Some rooms boast velvet couches and billowy white drapes,
some have fun, clandestine cubbyholes, and one room is
even thoroughly bedecked in S&M fashion. With a capacity
of about 750, the club is comprised of four large rooms,
several smaller, more private sitting areas, one smoking
patio and one large dance floor. And yet, despite the
amount of space there is, the mass amounts of patrons
on a Wednesday night fills every inch of every room and
corridor. Perhaps that’s why the night’s event is called
"MASS."

This mass, a.k.a. the clientele varies in
age, race and vogue, though all seem to spawn from the
same pool of Hollywood genes: good-looks and impeccable
(trendy) fashion sense. And the club, in order to satiate
the undulating throng of flawless socialites packed (happily)
together tight as sardines, offers some very special treats.
These include the midnight show of go-go dancers as well
as several special performances every week, not to mention
the alcohol spotlights (read: oftentimes there will be
an open bar for drinks made with these specific sponsors).
No wonder there is a constant crowd of people fixed as
firmly at the foot of the front door as the name of the
building stamped in stone above them.

Quote of the Week: "Last time I
was in here, years ago (before it was even the Playroom),
I saw [80's teen heart-throb] Cory Feldman's 'heavy metal'
band play, and a sassy transvestite gave me coke in the
girl's bathroom. This is better."
