"FAT
WHITE SEX"
Set
in England in the early twentieth century, Robert Altman's
Gosford Park was billed as an English hunting weekend
that ends up a murder mystery.

It
was English for sure (lots of tea, dimply white skin and
cankles); and people did shoot guns at animals, but a
mystery it was not. Even the guy alseep next to me figured
it out. Where Altman did slowly (but surely) succeed was
in sculpting an interesting look at the difference between
haves and have-nots. Within the main group of characters
there were well-defined lines of English class structure
honorable to the time period.

The
common thread on both sides of the kitchen door was a
heavy love and lust for sex. Sex was good, sex was wrong,
sex ruined lives. But I mean, how far can you take sexual
tension with a group of English people. It's like getting
too drunk. It's fun at first, then just ends up sloppy.
My advice, bring a date and a coffee. Oh yeah, a handmaiden
in the film is played by the schoolgirl who fucks Ewen
McGregor in Trainspotting. You know who I'm talking about.
