Beautifully shot with Mexico as the backdrop, "Y Tu Mama
Tambien" is a story of two horny friends and a woman who
finally decides to leave her cheating husband. The two friends,
who have just graduated from high school, are as close as
brothers. ("milk brothers" it turns out) The woman is just
lost.

The three sexually charged searchers go on a life-changing
journey to a destination that doesn't exist. Before, during
and after the journey they learn truths about each other
that force them to realize just who they are. Besides being
a wonderfully told story full of life and love, "Y Tu Mama
Tambien" is a search for truth.

Truth, as displayed in the film, is not always a good thing.
Truth can separate. Truth can hurt. And in the end, truth
is sometimes really just best left a lie. Not a malicious
lie. But a hidden lie. A lie that leaves well enough alone.
What we don't know never makes us cry.
With the rich characters and self-revealing
situations they find themselves in, "Y Tu Mama Tambien"
is simply a portrait of just how precious life is. How life
is a journey itself. How some of us are forced down one
road in the journey. How that if you're lucky - and you've
got the guide of experience - you are able to find your
own way. But in all cases, one thing remains the same: the
end of the journey can never be known. Or in some cases,
shouldn't be known.
Which brings me to a life truth correctly illustrated in
the film. No matter how many Disney movies are pumped out,
no matter how many pounds Jarred from Subway loses, no matter
how many jihads are called for, happy endings do not exist.
In life, a happy ending is merely an ending without the
whole truth.
My advice is to see this film with a lover.
You'll thank me later.
One footnote: In some cases happy endings do exist. They
cost about $150 at your neighborhood house of massage. So
I've been told.
