Sounds like a normal of the Battle of the Bands, right? WRONG. This show is anything but.

Hosted by the nation's hottest DJ Paul Secrest (94.3 FM in Orange County) and Angelica Bridges (Baywatch, MAXIM), the show pits bands against bands - letting the viewers at home and in the audience choose the winner.

Publicity Whore was forunate enough to have been there for the taping. And although most of the members in the bands looked young enough to have never held a razor, the music and production value proved well worth the hour drive.

He may look 15, but damn can he play!

No one knew going in who would win - fans and musicians came from far and wide to show their support for the bands and New Breed. Even rocker vocalist Rob Gallas (Free Spin) was in attendance.

The four bands competing were Tucker, Laura Dawn, Redline 5 and The Breakup Season. In a very close "applausemeter" style victory, The Breakup Season was crowned king for a day.

The bands ranged from Orange County locals to Laura Dawn who flew in to compete with her band for a shot at the spotlight.

What makes New Breed so refreshing, music aside, is the way in which the two hosts (Secrest & Bridges) interact and keep everyone excited and wondering what will come next. They got the chemistry and even arranged for Pat Leborio (Austin Powers III, Nightcreep) to amuse the crowd with some jokes and "humor" only this wildman is capable of.

The reality is there are no losers in NEW BREED, and that's the exact point of the show. Just good old fashioned exposure & publicity for everyone involved, something all these unsigned acts can really use. And being Publicity Whore, it is a concept we know all too well about!
