The new Wednesday nights at Joya, aptly titled 'Eve's Paradise,' is a great dig for women who crave cheap, sweet drinks and (cheap?) beefy men.

Anyone can find her/himself a spot to party in this well-planned-out space. Spread over two floors and going along with the biblical theme of the evening's title, the upstairs - clad in cherry-red flourescences, and the downstairs, set to an icy blue decor - resembles a chic, sleek, modern heaven and hell. One can either warm up on or around the dance floor upstairs, or just chill at the ink-blot shaped, brushed-metal tables downstairs, sipping drinks and watching either the beautiful people or checking out fish swimming in a unique fish-tank set flatly into the back wall.

The turn out varies somewhat from week to week, though the dance floor is usually packed by midnight. The clientele, on the other hand, is not so diverse. As per usual in this niche of Los Angeles (i.e. Beverly Hills), high school-style self-consciousness abounds, lingering on the breath of many of the very fine females in attendence. It is no wonder that the men allowed into the exclusive club all seem to fit into a cookie-cutter machismo style 'handsome' - mostly tall, dark and ... possibly-rich-looking, for the women tend to fall into the adjacent category of barbie doll-escence. On a good night. On a bad night, well lets just say that the pathetic aura of flaunted promiscuity displayed on their faces is almost as prominent as the salt-water tautness of their newly purchased breasts.

Finally there was a note a guy in line slipped to me: How many drinks would I have to buy you to get you onto that bed? [In reference to the velvet-embossed mattress tucked beneath the stairs, serving as a somewhat linking-ground between the distinct zones of the club, for it is only for the very naughty ... or, I suppose, very drunk...]
