During
the 1900's in Paris, the Italian painter and sculptor Amedeo
Modigliani developed a unique style. Today his graceful
portraits and lush nudes at once evoke his name, but during
his brief career few apart from his fellow artists were
aware of his gifts. Modigliani had to struggle against poverty
and chronic ill health, dying of tuberculosis and excesses
of drink and drugs at the age of 35.
Set in Paris in the fall of 1916, Modigliani offers
a fascinating historical glimpse of a truly suffering artist.

Today, Amedeo Modigliani's paintings sell
for millions and hang in the worldıs most prestigious museums,
but Dennis McIntyreıs passionate play reveals the hopeless,
agonizing and tragic life behind the masterpieces.

The New York Daily News calls Modigliani
"A wild, funny and moodily provocative play...raffish and
richly atmospheric." Publicity Whore says "it kicks
ass!"

History of Modigliani
Amedeo Modigliani was born on July 2nd, 1884, in Livorno,
Italy. Youngest son of a wealthy Jewish couple, he was brought
up in austerity and suffered from his weak lungs. Pneumonia
and tuberculosis remained key struggles throughout his life.
Encouraged by his mother to develop his artistic talents,
he left home at the age of 17 for Florence and later Venice,
where he studied art. Five years later, in 1906, the young
Amedeo arrived in Paris where he led a calm life in Montmartre
at first. He met great art personalities of the avant-garde,
such as Picasso, Utrillo, Jean Cocteau, Soutine, among many
others. His first works show a rather moderate interest
for cubism, a movement that is just starting, yet indicate
affinities with Steinlen, Lautrec and the Picassos of the
Blue Period
