Man Planet
Silver Lake Lounge
May 14, 2002

by: Josh Banks

Earthlings Beware: Here comes a new wave in intergalactic entertainment - Man Planet.

I had the pleasure of seeing them when they landed for one night only at the Silver Lake Lounge. The show was opened by up the seducing, sultry, groovy tunes of Gram Rabbit. The lead singer Jessica Rabbit has a voice and stage performance that reminded me of the great sexy lead singers of the 70's.

But the band of the night was definitely Man Planet. The small bar in Silver Lake was packed for a truly unique rock experience. Minneapolis-based Man Planet combines the look of a 60's retro movie, the electronic beat of new wave, and the guitar wailing of the 70's glam scene.

Not only is Man Planet an incredibly tight band, but their stage presentation is incredible. Their outer space bondage suits, low-grade pyrotechnics and television screens as stage props add greatly to their outer space performance.

Man Planet's songs revolve around space explorations gone wrong, and a robot’s existential search. They bring the fun back to music, with the look and sound of Devo and Kiss.

So quit being so fucking serious and check out the Man Planet when they land in a city near you.
