Thanks to event coordinator Darren Dotson and promotional badboys Eric Todd and Matt Gavin, Cage Fighting rears its bloody head on Sunset Blvd and is met with open arms. Among the celebrities in attendance are Tone Loc, Mario Lopez (Saved by the Bell), Peter Greene (Blue Streak), Andrew Bryniarski (The Program), and UFC icons Tito Ortiz and Chuck "The Iceman" Liddell.

Remember This Fuckin' Guy?

But the brightest stars tonight are those inside the steel cage, showcasing their various fighting styles and exhibiting their rather incredible thresholds for pain. The evening starts off with two talented martial arts demonstrators performing a comical act with a referee wearing giant boxing gloves. Throughout the evening, adult entertainment group Wicked presents some stunning ladies that saunter about the ring, holding up round signs, tossing out various gifts, or drawing raffle winners, garnering much ado from the numerous males in attendance.

Ok, now this I can deal with

As each fighter is introduced, a motivational song of their choice booms across the arena to the delight of the large crowd. The first match features the hulking Ivy Calvin and his wresting/boxing skills vs. Samu "The Samoan Warrior" and his full contact expertise.

Would you ever, and I mean ever,
want to get into a ring and actually fight this guy??

Calvin, who never even takes off his t-shirt, wins a quick submission via choke hold. Next up, kickboxer Jason Pratt wins a two-round decision over Brazilian ju-jitsu fighter Brady Fink. The third match features two absolute GIANTS in Kerry "Meat Truck" Schull and Steve Fredricks.

After a brutal flurry of head slaps and takedowns, Fredricks perseveres via submission, forcing Schull to tap out to a nasty ankle hold. The last match before the main events has the skilled Antonio Mckee winning a decision over Steve Gomm. During a short intermission, two young boys enter the ring holding the American Flag and stand by as Shawn Walker sings the National Anthem.

The first of two main events for this evening features two talented fighters with distinctly different styles. Dave Menne and his freestyle martial arts are pitted against Robert "Prince of Leglocks" Ferguson and his submission wrestling. Menne gives a brilliant display of some fancy roundhouse kicks and heavy head slaps, and thoroughly dominates the match by pinning his opponent to the fence or ground consistently. Ferguson fights valiantly, but seems seriously overmatched by his larger opponent. The judges apparently see differently, as judges will often do, and rule the match a draw.

However, UAGF rules require one overtime round in case of a tie. Ferguson, unable to continue due to a hand injury, does not return to the ring and the decision is given to Menne. The final event features another two giants, the aptly named Mark "The Bear" Smith and Ron Faircloth.

Looks like someone may get lucky tonite!

The two heavy hitters pound on each other for two rounds, but Smith constantly uses his weight and momentum to pin Faircloth to the ground, driving his big fists into his ribs for good measure. Smith takes the UAGF Heavyweight belt by decision, and walks away from tonight's fantastic event the champion. Hopefully, Cage Fighting will visit Los Angeles on a more regular basis, as this underground sport is quickly exploding into the mainstream.
