Sean
Cory is a guy who knows a thing or two about
acting. Not only is he considered one of the best up
and commers in Los Angeles, but his new feature film
with DMX is scheduled for release later this year. In
a town full of bullshit wannabe actors, Publicity Whore
sat down to see what makes Sean such a standout and
THE GUY everyone is keeping their eyes on in 2003.
P.W:
OK, I'm hearing a lot about this
movie you got coming out with DMX. Lots of action, plenty
of smokin' babes. What's the real story here?

Guys how'd you like to star in a film
next to her!
Sean:
The name of the film is "Cradle 2 The Grave",
and along with Jet Li and DMX, the movie also stars
Chi Mcbride from "Boston Public", Mark Dacascos
from "Brotherhood of the Wolf", Kelly Hu From
"The Scorpion King", and Gabrielle Union from
"Bring it On". The story is about an undercover
Taiwanese agent (Li) trying to recover stolen jewels,
but it turns out the jewels are actually a superweapon
with enormous destructive power. He gets help from DMX,
and together they battle the bad guys(great fight scenes)
and try to save the day.
DMX puts the smack down in Cradle
2 The Grave
P.W:
For those that don't know about
your background, how did you get started in the acting
business?
Sean:
I've been here 8 years. Oh god. 8 years. I need a drink.
Anyway, How I got started. Way back in the 8th grade,
I was in an advanced english class, in Hartford, CT.
My teacher saw an ad in the paper for a community theatre
audition-the play was "David and Lisa"- for
extra credit, she had me go audition for the play, and
the idea was to write a report about the audition, but
they actually cast me-That's how I got the acting bug.

Something every LA entertainer knows
all too well about!
P.W:
Who are the people you've looked
to for support as you've been building your career?
Sean:
My mentors....First and foremost, my mom (God rest her
soul). Without her support in the early going, I never
would have made it this far. as far as career mentors, there
are quite a few. I've been lucky enough here to be friends
with a lot of working actors, directors and producers,
people I met when i first got to town. having a good
support system here is as important (if not more so)
as a good agent. The most important career lesson I've
learned to get ahead? BE PROACTIVE. Do Theatre, get
in a class or a workshop, network, network, network,
handle all of the "Business" of show business.
People will help you if they see you helping yourself.
Do something to advance your career every single day.
Sean Cory: One guy who hasn't let
success go to his head
P.W:
Besides Cradle 2 The Grave, what
other films have you worked on?
Sean:
Other films That I've done include "Phantom Pain"(Nominated
for grand jury prize, slamdance film festival1998),
"Fatal Blade" with Cuba Gooding SR. (Cuba's
dad) and Japanese rocker Seiko Matsuda, and I got to
work with Michael Jackson on the music video "Stranger
in Moscow", part of the "HIStory on Film Volume
II" Compilation. Working with Michael was beyond
cool. On T.V., I've done "The Practice", and
"7 Days" with Jonathan Lapaglia. I AM AN ACTOR
FOR LIFE. I don't want to do anything else.
Michael then....
P.W:
If there were a 'role you were meant
to play' what would it be?
Sean:
Any role that involves a love scene with Halle Berry.
Any. I'll play the sheets on the bed. I don't care.
P.W:
What is working with DMX like? Is
he cool or a totally arrogant prick?
Sean:
DMX was totally cool and totally accessible. Plus he
brought a pack of some of the hottest women I've ever
seen on the set with him. Gotta love the guy.
...and Michael now!
P.W:
Is breaking into the acting business really as tough
as people say?
Sean: Yes, it really is tough. You really have
to be a special sort of person to deal. It takes a lot
of balls to live your dream and deal with constant rejection.
Having said that, there are also a lot of player- hating
whiners out there as well. Suck it up you pussies!!!!

"You better listen to
my man Sean or get DMX'd the fuck out"
P.W:
If you could meet any person from
history, who would it be and would you ask them?
Sean:
Sindey Potier. And all I could really say would be "Thank
you".
P.W:
Are you from LA originally, or one
of these transplanted 'actor by day, food service professionals
by night' types?
Sean:
I was born in Hartford, CT, but I grew up in Queens,
NY. Acting has been my only profession, But i've had
every job in America at least once, except for porn
star.

Ron Jeremy & Holly Hollywood
P.W:
What advice can you offer to someone
breaking into the 'business'?
Sean:
My advice? Study your craft. I'm serious. Find a good
acting program or a good acting teacher, preferably
someone who is a working actor themselves. Never pay
out of your pocket for representation, avoid anyone
who represents themselves as your only avenue into the
business(Guru types). Go ahead and call The unions(SAG,
AFTRA, EQUITY) if you have questions about an agent.
Do your homework on people as much as possible.

P.W:
What are your thoughts on musicians
like Eminem who are now breaking into movie roles?
Sean:
I have not seen 8 mile, but I think Eminem is a great
artist.
I mean will someone please teach
this man how to shave properly
P.W:
Nelly - love him or hate him?
D$:
Nelly is da bomb. "Pimp Juice" is the shizz-nit.
P.W:
If you weren't acting what would
you be doing?
Sean: If I weren't an actor? Maybe a teacher. The
thing I like most about acting is just the opportunity
to create a great character, to be someone else. Lots
of fun.

"That Sean Cory is one fine
dude!"
P.W:
What's the trick to getting an agent
who's worth a shit?
Sean:
I think the key to landing an agent is to be recommended,
either by a Casting Director, or by one of their clients.
That's much better than a blind submission. What They
look for (I think), are talented, PROFESSIONAL, actors
with a sale-able look.
P.W:
We heard that J-Lo has been on your
tip for a long time, and once her preposterous relationship
with Ben Affleck ends (and you know it will) you're
gonna be the next cat on deck. Any truth to this?
Sean:
That's a dirty lie. That's my story and I'm sticking
to it. Well ....

Come back to me baby....come back!
P.W:
So how many hunnies are you sporting
these days, being an up and coming celeb and all?
Sean:
I'm absolutely single.
P.W:
And if you had to tell some poor
pathetic bastard what you think about the guys at Publicity
Whore, what would you say?
Sean:
You guys are the best!!!!!!!!!! Your magazine strikes
a blow for humanity, for all of us that say, Yes, Virginia,
WE ARE PUBLICITY WHORES!!!!!! (can I get an amen?)
P.W:
For you Sean, we'll even throw in a Hell Ya!
