When Publicity Whore
heard that New Jersey's Bad Boy and former "Comedian
of the Week" Mike Marino was performing in Las
Vegas with Carrottop, we decided we just had to tag
along.

Now even I gotta admit,
I've seen my fill of those 1-800-CALL-ATT ads he does,
but Carrottop as a standup? - that I knew nothing about.

So after hopping a Southwest
flight to Vegas, grabbing a room, and scarfing down
some killer sushi at MGM, I headed for the theater not
knowing quite what to expect.

What
many people don't realize is that Publicity Whore was
inspired and born out of a comedy club. The Icehouse
Comedy Club to be exact, and although we cover all the
great bands out there worth knowing about, we really
have seen even more comedians! So I was prepared to
be critical, and judge if Carrottop really knew how
to put on a show - or was he just another actor type
trying to pull off some cheesedick comedy career.

"You talkin' to me?"
His
show proved more than impressive, and filled with intense
special effects, a team of engineers, flashpots, lasers,
and strobe lights - making the experience resemble a
U2 concert much more than a stand up comedy gig.

The
guy is 100% manic, and combines his own unique style
of comic genius and showmanship. He won the crowd over
the moment he hit the stage, that was apparent - even
winning over some total rednecks in the front row. You
should have seen these old codgers just staring at him
confused as all hell - Carrottop's long red hair flapping
all over. But as soon as he drilled into them, it was
all over. Even they couldn't hold back.
The
part I found most impressive about the show were his
ridiculous impersonations of musicians like Gene Simmons
& Steven Tyler. He changed from one outfit into
another into another, pulling clothes from boxes stuffed
with props and homemade devices like the 'pee in the
putter' golf club for men on the course who need some
water 'relief'.

I
got to hand it to the guy - he's got it down cold. It
was a real tight performance, and his style is like
a machine gun. Jokes just keep flying , and combined
with the AV effects, it's first rate entertainment.
I'm just glad I'm not the guy who has to move all the
crates from city to city!

So,
if you ever get a chance to see that wild man on TV
screaming about the importance of saving some dough
on ALL your collect calls, go do it. It's a great show
and one you'll be very happy you made it to!
