P.W:
Paul people are telling us you are THE guy to know
in Orange County. How have your experiences as an
on-air radio celebrity changed your life?
P.S:
First I'm recognized as the youngest DJ in the largest
radio market in the United States and now I'm the
freakin DJ of the Week in P.W. That's rad! Very
cool honor to have. Ok now that I thanked the "little
people" I can continue...lol. I really don't
consider myself to be a real celebrity but there
have been some really awesome advantages to being
on the radio. I have some of the most hardcore fans
in the world who email me everyday and I always
extend the time right back. If your gonna take the
time to write, im sure as hell gonna take the time
as well, ive met some really cool people throughthe
years. I also get in free at the movies, I get free
clothing by different sponsors, Im at the hottest
clubs and I meet tons of hot chicks. lol (thanks
to the bands i hang with)

P.W:
Are you a frustrated musician turned radio jock,
or is radio something you always wanted to get into?
P.S:
I can barely even play guitar, but I can play a
mean "Disarm" by the Smashing Pumpkins.
Music has always been a huge part of my life. Growing
up with three older brothers I had a great spectrum
of influence from Metallica, Def Leppard, Hendrix,
Dokken (and yes I said Dokken) to Buddy Holly. Radio
was never the plan as a career move, it just really
happened all on accident when I was in high school.

"Spandex and Hairspray
sold seperately"
PW:
A lot of bands think the DJ's hold power in what
tracks get spun, and which don't. How much say does
the DJ really have in this?
P.S:
Honestly this is a huge question I get asked all
the time and I will expose the truth that really
no one is allowed to talk about in radio. Most of
what you hear on the radio and also the reason why
most people hate the radio is because of record
labels pounding stations with "goodies"
to play their artist's music. These goodies resort
sometimes in motor vehicles, cash, vip concert tix
and backstage passes to anything you want.I have
had the honor to work at some stations like MIX
95.9 to the most recent COOL 94.3 which was OC's
Independent radio station and "independent"
we were. We played what no one else would or can.
I played the music I was actually taking requests
for, imagine that playing an ACTUAL request. Most
DJ's cant change the set playlist So the majority
of what you hear is some Music Director's picks
from Billboard magazine and their favorite tracks
that labels want them to spin, which is really gay!
(non homosexual reference)

PW:
If your radio station got bombarded day after day
with requestsfor a song from a 'hot new band' you
had never heard of, would youmost likely wind up
playing it?
P.S:
That was a normal radio shift at Cool, every other
call was for some underground band to finally be
heard and fans knew we would get as much info on
that band and if it was good, we pumped it. I love
discovering new artists and music. I actually had
a hand in helping launch, Michelle Branch, The Calling,
Linkin Park, Sugercult, Lifehouse, Pinback, Authority
Zero and alot other really awesome bands that deserve
to be heard. So that has been a great aspect of
this business is helping out bands on a grand scale.

PW:
You hosted a TV show called 'New Breed' that exposed
musicians in a televised battle of the bands competition.
With American Idol becoming so popular, is this
something we may see as a FOX follow-up anytime
soon?
P.S:
New Breed was exposed to the public way before Idol
even became a thought to bring over here to the
US. It was an unique way to showcase bands in the
traditional fashion of a battle of the bands. We
got to help out alot of very talented musicians
who are doing extremely well on circut tours right
now. It was a shame that the executive producer
of the show got greedy and stole my concept for
New Breed and went over to another network and has
now became the show known as "Bands on the
Run". Quite ironically though, he was fired.
Karma sucks huh.

PW: Besides radio, what else
is going on in the world of Paul Secrest?
P.S:
I'm a very motivated person so I am always busy
and on the fly. Most recently I was working with
Quentin Tarantino on his latest flick, "Kill
Bill" which has been an amazing experience
to say the least. Hell the guy is an icon in my
eyes, a true genius when it comes to writing a kick
ass movie. One of the most down to earth guys I
have had to pleasure to work with. I have also gotten
into doing the stand up comedy thing on a more consistant
level so that is another thing on my plate keeping
me busy. I also have a retarded cat which I take
care of too.

PW:
Any crazy twisted groupie stories you can share
with us? I mean, being an OC playboy must bring
with it some adventure.
P.S:
I have stories up the yin yang brotha...Let's see
off the top of my head, I have this listner who
loves to send me videotapes of her living at her
trailor park (swear to God) where she just waves
in the camera confessing her love for me. It's usually
the most requested thing to watch at parties. Its
very scary actually but in a deranged way, flattering.
Another quick story, my last three girlfriends were
caller 20, what do you expect radio is a Dj's dating
service...and yes I have had sex in the studio.
my court date is in April, lol

"...why Secrest
really pulls in that extra-time at work."
PW:
A lot of people hear the name Secrest and think
of Ryan - the frosty haired fellow on the LA station.
Has sharing a name with another radio personality
helped you, or has it made it more of a challenge
to build a following?
P.S:
It really hasn't been a challenge because it's pretty
damn obvious that I'm the straight Secrest, so things
have been smooth. Honestly I used to work with Ryan
so there has always been for some reason this anomosity
towards me from him. I have no idea why but he does
not like me. Im a pretty laid back, down to earth
person so maybe he's jealous that I can hold a conversation
without mentioning my tv career and dating life
every other minute. Ryan, can't we all just get
along? I don't really worry about what other people
do or don't do, I just do my own thing and I think
that has held my ratings so strong against his program.
I offer myself on the air and nothing more. I'm
proud to not be another cookie cutter DJ out there,
it shows Im doing something unique and it works.

Dude,
can you get any more fruity?
PW:
Your Favorite band of all time?
P.S:
Such a hard question to answer because there are
so many catagories to choose from and moods that
reflect certain songs but I would have to say...there
is a three way tie so deal with it, Oingo Boingo,
Nine Inch Nails and U2.

P.W:
If you could meet any person from history - dead
or alive - and ask them one question, who would
it be and what would you say?
P.S:
Simple, I would have loved to meet Kurt Cobain,
one of the most influential writers, singers and
people to bend music to what it is today. I would
love to thank him for opening up the door and the
one question would be..."How do you really
feel on the inside". I think he had so much
more to say before he past away.

P.W:
Is it true you are a close friend of Pat Leborio
who starred in Austin Powers Goldmember? Do you
think we'll be seeing more of the Razorman anytime
soon?
P.S:
To set the record straight, I gave him a ride to
a show once cause his piece of shit car finally
died and he hasent stopped calling me for rides.
Nahh, Pat is a great friend and someone I really
admire. He is currently working on his first comedy
CD in which I also appear on.

P.W:
OK, you could be on prime time in any US market
of your choice. Where are you headed to and why?
P.S:
I wouldnt leave Los Angeles for anything. I started
my career here in the prime time so I think this
is where I belong. LA is considered to be the top
market next to NY, so while continuing here I just
wanna grow as a person and as a radio jock. I want
to be an example that you dont need to go to some
lame ass "radio school" to do this job,
its about showcasing your own individual personality
and that is what makes you different than anybody
else. I have worked my ass off to get where I am
and it's because I held my own with the big boys
and didnt back down cause I was always just "that
young kid on the radio ". I've stepped up my
game and held my ground and that's why Im respected
in this business as one of the best on the radio
today. Plus..my parents live here so i need a place
to stay.

PW:
Do you prefer blondes or brunettes? And for the
ladies, are you single?
P.S:
Doesnt really matter to me but I tend to fall for
the brunettes. I think they tend to be more on the
wild side and Blondes if you want to help me change
my mind, Im open to new things. And yes for the
record I am Living La Single Loca and looking.

PW:
What's coming up in your career people should know
about? Any shout out's you wanna give?
P.S:
Right now Im working hard at a kick ass movie project
which is going to elevate me to that status I want
to be as an actor. I play a homeless heroin addict
and it has been one of the best things I have had
the pleasure to be apart of, so look for that. Im
also in talks to host some upcoming tv shows so
next time we talk, you will be watching me instead
of reading my words. Normally Im letting listeners
do the shout outs so wow this is cool here are mine,
Studio Wonderland.com, thanks for all the support
and best promo headshots in the world, My parents
I love ya, some of the best comedians on the rise..Roger
Smith, Pat Leborio, Pablo Francisco, Ashley, Wacky
Iraqy, Ryan Seacrest (will you be my friend, lol)
and ofcourse the people who have taken the time
out of their schedule and lives to invest in my
career and radio show, I truly thank you for your
valueable time. for more check out my official website,
www.paulsecrestonline.com

Will the real Secrest
please stand up?
PW: And lastly, what do you
think of those crazy ass journalists over at Publicity
Whore Magazine?
P.S:
Craig and the crew at P.W. your hardwork deserves
to be backhanded lol, and given a nice, long, wet
blow job for your support. I think you do a kick
ass job of delivering some worthless information
to the people who appreciate the worthlessness,
like me.
