On The Town With
Publicity Whore

Bringing you the best of The Clubs, The Bands, The Bitches & The Drunks

By J-Boogie

K.C. - frontman of LA's hit band 'Pinhead'

By J-Boogie

So you still haven’t left the house in 2003 huh? O.K you loser- here it is again in its second installment. Publicity Whore's cutting look at what's really going on around LA. So many shows, so little time.

The Pasadena Civic Center - Rock and Wrestling at The Comic Convention

In these days of Political Correctness, it’s great to see some true “politically incorrect” & wild entertainment. It was an evening of Rock and Wrestling Madness, from the Sci-Fi and Horror, Comic Convention gurus 'Creation Entertainment.'

Spike Liberty from Foriegn Object

It’s always fun to watch ultra conservative Pasadena being invaded by the punk rock hooligans and wild misfits from Hollywood. The Dickies are a perfect band for the Publicity Whore audience because not only do they play some incredibly tight old school new wave punk rock, but their shows includes crazy stage props (its just like the usual stuff you’ll find around the Publicity Whore office) like dog hand puppet, blow-up dolls & plastic clubs. It’s a throwback to the seventies, and rather than pretty boys sportin' Hot Topic gear, it’s a band that just wants to have some wild and crazy fun. Also, it was a legendary day when Stan Lee (Guitarist) and Stan Lee (comic book guru/Spiderman creator) met for the first time.

Is the Dickies Guitarist the real Stan Lee?

The opening band was the amazing and incredible Foreign Object. Foreign Object is one of my personal favorite local bands in the Hollywood scene because not only do they play a great mix of punk rock tunes, but they also include a blow out slam banging punk rock wrestling match to go with it. Concert goers by forewarned - when attending a Foreign Object show, always watch out for flying chairs, and performers.

Agent Orange
@ The Key Club in Hollywood

It's twenty-five years later and they're still screwed up kids who refuse to grow-up. I am talking about the Rich Kids On LSD (aka RKL), an old school favorite among the punk elite. These boys who call themselves 'RKL' bring to the stage their own brand of hard-core energy and a true 'anything goes' spirit.

The one and only J-Boogie from Publicity Whore
and Jason from RKL

It was another great show at the best live music venue in Hollywood 'The Key Club'. Also performing was Terminal Holocaust, Hollywood Hate, Bad Samaritans, Mornington, Dead Lazlo’s Place and the headliner for the evening - the legendary surf punk rock band, Agent Orange. Mike Palm has been with band since the beginning and still keeps rocking after all these years. Agent Orange also has Rusty on drums who rips up some killer surf rock beats.

Mike Palm ripping it up at The Key Club

This show also documented a moment in music history, since it had been 25 years since RKL had played with Agent Orange. Dead Lazlo's Place are also still rocking today and bring back the old school pop punk days of The Descendents. The evening also was the record release party for Hollywood Hate. The Key Club was literally packed wall to wall with Mohawks, social degenerates and body piercings, proving the punk rock spirit of Hollywood is still alive and thriving.

Club Paranormal
@ The Key Club
w/ Pinhead & The Peppermint Creeps

Those wild and colorful creatures 'The Peppermint Creeps' played another show at The Key Club. It was also the anniversary of 'Club Paranormal' and included performances from Pinhead, Rakit, Specimen 32 and 'Heavenly Trip To Hell'. Club Paranormal is an out of this world event that brings together some of the best talent in the heavy metal & glam rock Hollywood scene.

Traci - promoter of Club Paranormal
and drummer from The Peppermint Creeps

Pinhead ripped through a heavy melodic metal set and The Creeps freaked out the norms with their wild stage performance and out of this world make-up. Pinhead plays loud, hard hitting, in your face metal with melodic beats and great vocals. The Peppermint Creeps bring the glam scene back with their outlandish outfits and an outrageous stage performance.

Exploiting Eve
@ The Key Club

presented by Brian Lewis & Burst Music

Publicity Whore would like to congratulate Exploiting Eve on signing with their new music managment company 'IMC Entertainment'. If you're looking for a soulful, grooving rock band then you need look no further than Exploiting Eve. The band is a favorite on the LA scene, and sets a great example for bands to follow on how to 'Do it Yourself'. It doesn't hurt either that their frontwoman Janelle is smokin hottie and packs a powerful vocal punch. Also taking the stage were Overload, Freelance Johnson, D-Toxx, and Love 45.

The White Trash Debutantes
@ The Garage

It was another night of wild romping ruckus with Publicity Whore's friends 'The White Trash Debutantes'. The Garage in Silver Lake is a great place to swill cheap drinks and watch local punk rock bands on any given night of the week.

The White Trash Debutantes

The White Trash Debutantes, with the one and only Ginger, always put on one bad ass, sexy in your face performance. Along for the evening was punk rock straight out of Eureka, California - "Nuns With Guns". So if the Hollywood scene has jaded you and you're pulling your hair out trying find a new dive worth crashing, give The Garage a try.

Hornblowers Comedy Club
"A night out with Mike Marino
"

Publicity Whore had a chance to get the hell out of Hollywood (which everyone needs to do now and again) and check out New Jersey's Bad Boy Mike Marino at Hornblowers in Ventura County. Hornblowers is a very classy club and showcases some of the best up and coming comedians that Southern California has to offer. If you haven't had a chance to check out Mike Marino be forwarned - you will definitely laugh your ass off!!! The guy is pure comic genius and brings out the Italian gangster persona perhaps better than any other comic we've seen in a very long time. His jokes about joining the Von's club (aka: Gangs for White People) were big hits with the homegrown & pasty white Ventura crowd.

What you looking at?

On the bill was also a very funny comedian named Sebastian. Sebastian has opened for Andrew Dice Clay and brings his own style of Italian humor; combined with Marino it proved the perfect one two punch. So if you're looking for some great comedy and a reason to get out of the San Fernando Valley (besides the shitty air of course) then check out Hornblowers in Ventura County - it's on the water.

Spy Tech Records
ILL Boogie Productions
@ The Knitting Factory

It was a free show to showcase some up and coming talent in hip-hop. Taking the stage was 4-Zone, Lexicon, and ILL Boogie Productions own 'Styles Of Beyond.' The Knitting Factory was packed wall to wall with the hip-hop fans of Hollywood. Also mixing the beats was the one and only D.J Cheapshot. 4-Zone opened the show and rocked the house with kicking beats and a jamming flow of rap lyrics - proving they are a true up & coming force in the world of hip-hop.

'Daniel'
hosted by 100.3 FM 'The Beat'
@ Platinum Live

There is a new name emerging on the urban music scene, and his name is "Daniel". He has not only sold over 200,000 CD's on his own over the internet, but has now caught the eye of LA Hip Hop powerhouse radio station: 100.3FM 'The Beat.

If you've never been to 'Platinum Live' in Studio City you really need to check it out. The club looks like a 1920 underground speakeasy, with a cozy and comfortable interior.

A great place to kick back and pour a few stiff drinks and listen to great live music. Daniel's funky mix of originals, and polished keyboard skills kicked the crowd into high gear. His songs are a funky blend of soulful hip hop, and express a more positive message than what's typically heard.

The lovely Nautica De La Cruz
from 100.3 FM "The Beat"

It's nice to see 100.3 FM 'The Beat' getting behind & supporting a self promoted artist like Daniel, shattering the myth that radio stations only support bands attached to major labels. Perhaps this is a trend we'll see other stations follow suit with, exposing a crop of new and innovative talent.

On air personality Nautica De La Cruz took the stage and got the event started off, along with Conard from Platinum Live.
