If Los Angeles is truly the "Entertainment Capital of
the World", then why is it damn near impossible to ever
find a decent song on the fucking radio? Doesnt matter
what time of the day it is if I get in my car and turn
on the radio, there will undoubtedly be shit. Then I can scan
through the entire dial, station at a time, and still
nothing.
On lap two nothing. Then on lap three I will
get something that is decent at best. Maybe its
"Crossroads" by Cream, or something by Nine Inch
Nails. And I usually only catch the tail end of these songs,
because I spent the entire duration chasing my tail looking
for it.
Im from Chicago, where there is this little gem of a
radio station called WXRT. Theres always something on
WXRT real music. New and old, happy and sad, popular,
obscure - whatever. They have filtered out the shit, and refuse
to repeat any song in any given day.
And what does the Entertainment Capital of the World get?
Fucking KROQ the saddest most candy-ass excuse for
a radio station Ive ever heard. EVER! I mean how many
times a day can a station really play that gay ass "Cut
My Life Into Pieces" song? Or anything by Sugar Ray,
or Everclear, or Limp Bizkit? Bad shit played over and over
and over.
So whats a resident of LA to do? Simple:
KXLU 88.9 fm. This is the radio station thats run by
students at Loyola Marymount University. Its without
question the finest radio station in LA. Of course hardly
anyone knows about it. They dont have the bread to put
up big booths in every concert parking lot in southern California,
so they are currently only hitting about 1/10th of what they
could be. But if all of you cheap fuckers can scrounge up
ten bucks, then we can hang on to this gem for at least another
year. They are having their annual pledge drive, and I assure
you this will be money well spent. So just split the
dope with a friend this week, and kick KXLU the money you
saved.
